Darla Hobbs is a Syracuse native and graduate researcher whose work focuses on community-driven development through a social justice-centered approach to housing equity. She is a Lender Center for Social Justice Fellow examining the long-term impacts of redlining and infrastructure displacement on Black and Brown communities, with particular attention to the I-81 corridor. With over a decade of experience in education and equity-focused roles, Darla brings a deep commitment to research grounded in lived experience and community realities. She recently served on Mayor Sharon Owens’ GenNext Transition Committee, helping identify priorities for youth, college students, and young professionals across the city. Darla has also contributed to the themes and elements of the Barner McDuffie House at Syracuse University. Grounded in Black Feminist Thought, her work prioritizes centering community voice and perspective while producing research that supports equitable and sustainable outcomes for Syracuse residents.
