Launched in the fall of 2009, Creative Arts Academy is CFAC's pre-professional arts program for students in grades 7 through 12 interested in the possibility of the visual and performing arts as a potential professional pursuit. The mission of Creative Arts Academy is to engage, nurture and empower young people from the city of Syracuse through the arts, in preparation for advanced study in the visual and expressive arts. We believe that the arts provide a sound foundation for young people resulting in an improved sense of self, fortifying them to perform better in school and unearth their infinite potential.
The three disciplines of Creative Arts Academy are dance, theater, and visual art. To learn more about the program or to schedule an audition, contact CAA coordinator Tamar Smithers at 315-442-2536 or tjsmithe@syr.edu.
Purchase a T-shirt:

During the 2010-2011 school year, CAA visual art students began a collaboration with international artist Rigo 23 in creating a mural to address the pressing issue of youth violence in Syracuse. This mural became a yearlong project, and the students worked with lead visual art instructor Arthur Brangman to complete it. In order to spread the students' message outside of the city of Syracuse, Community Folk Art Center is selling T-shirts that feature an image of the mural on the front and the CAA logo on the back. T-shirts are available to purchase for $20 plus $5 shipping and handling via PayPal. All proceeds will benefit Creative Arts Academy programming.
Additionally we ask that if you purchase a T-shirt you put it on, snap a photo, and upload it to our Facebook page. The more diverse the location, the better! Our students are hoping to see how far their artistic message can spread around the country and, hopefully, the world.
