Figurative Ceramic Sculpture Class

The Community Folk Art Center (CFAC) is offering a beginner to intermediate level figurative ceramics sculpture class. The eight-week course is scheduled to start May 13th and will run Tuesdays from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Your instructor, Eunjung Shin Vargas, will explore clay handling, hand building, ceramic sculpting, glazing and electric firing techniques. Everyone in the class will have an opportunity to construct several small-to-medium hollow ceramic figures. At the end of the course you will be able to keep all the pieces you have created.

Register now, spaces are limited. Maximum group size is eight students to ensure that everyone taking part enjoys close personal attention from the instructor. All tools, materials and equipment are provided. The focus is on practical and creative work and your instructor will keep a close eye to help you achieve the best results.

NOTE: This course involves some potentially messy processes so you are advised to wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. Long pants are suggested. For safety reasons please DO NOT wear flip-flops, hand accessories or flowing shirt sleeves.

New Ceramics Class at the Community Folk Art Center with

Ceramics class with Professor MacDonald is scheduled to start October 4, 2007. This will be a six-week, beginner class every Thursday, (a couple of days may be postponed due to prior commitments) from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Cost to take the class is $190.00 (includes registration fee). We can hold a spot for you with a down payment of $60.00 (non-refundable). Full payment is due by September 28, 2007. The adult painting class is designed for people with some experience and a serious interest in the visual arts. Located in Syracuse's Connective Corridor, CFAC is offering a unique opportunity for you to explore and develop your creative skills and talents under the direction of a master artist.

Weaving A Legacy: Perspectives on Civil Rights

The Community Folk Art Center will host a series of workshops for children and young adults on Saturdays in February. This series is entitled, "Weaving A Legacy: Perspectives on Civil Rights." 1:00 p.m.: Storytelling with Jackie Grace-Rasheed.
2:00 p.m.: Performance by the Danforth in Motion Dancers.
3:00 p.m.: Screening of the film My Friend Martin.
4:00 p.m.: Art Project with Alanda Bolden: "Footprints."
February 17th: (children & adults of all ages)
No Registration Required
1:00 p.m.: Storytelling with Vanessa Johnson
"Walkin' and Talkin' Civil Rights”.
2:00 p.m.: Performance by the Danforth Drummers.
3:00 p.m.: Workshop: "Creating a Remembrance Journal."
February 24th: (Workshop for teens & up / Performance for everyone)
Registration Required by February 17th.
11:30 a.m.: Workshop with Dr. Sheila Aird, focusing on Civil Rights.
"The Past Informs the Present and the Present Informs the Future."
1:30 p.m.: Performance of gospel and Civil Rights songs by the group Kevin and the Free Spirit.
